Outside Operator – Newsprint ( P11 )
Sappi Ngodwana Mill requires an Outside Operator to optimize PM2 performance by doing regular inspections, set-up and adjustment of equipment in a safe and efficient way.
This role reports to the Shift Superintendent.
The main responsibilities of this job are:
- Inspect the relevant areas using check sheets, observe, rectify and report all deficiencies to the process controller.
- Improve machine runnability by cleaning pulp build-up on the machine.
- Ensure the wet-end systems are in good working condition.
- Ensure the clothing and chemical showers are clean producing uniform jets/spray.
- Take regular raw stock and refined stock samples as per the sampling schedule and take it to the wet-end laboratory for analysis.
- Prepare machine for start-up, change refiners when needed, and start and operate the plant from outside panels.
- Supervise housekeeping for section.
- Keep and maintain a high standard of safety awareness.
- Initiates notifications to various maintenance departments.
- Perform isolations on the plant equipment for plant maintenance using safe working procedures.
- Write out clearance certificates for plant maintenance.
- Relief on plant sections where licenced.
- Inspect machine clothing and assist with clothing changes and other shut jobs.
The ideal candidate should have:
- Matric with Maths and Science or N3 Pulp and Paper
- 2-3 years experience working in a Paper Machine manufacturing process
