VACANCIES IN THE DEPARTMENT

BORDER GUARD, (182 POSITIONS), REF NO: HRMC 10/22/03

SALARY LEVEL : A basic salary of R211 713 to R249 378 per annum (Level 6). In addition, a range of competitive benefits are offered.

REQUIREMENTS :
• A Grade 12 Certificate and training in public security environment
• Training in a public security environment i.e. Military, Police or any relevant Community Policing Services
• Firearm Competency
• Physical fitness
• A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage
• Communication, decision-making and knowledge management
• Planning, organising and conflict management
• Quality orientation, safety awareness and ability to operate and safeguard firearm
• Adaptability, commitment and creativity
• Discipline, empathy, external actualisation and frustration tolerance
• Impact, innovative and observant
• Self-confidence, tact, trustworthy and self- motivated
• A Military, Police or relevant Community Policing Services training Certificate is required.

DUTIES :
The successful candidate will be responsible for, amongst others, the following specific
tasks:
• To perform operations on general border management and security services at the identified Ports entry and the borderline. Conduct general border management activities and security services to ensure effective and efficient border management. Attend the on and off duty parades and be stationed as per deployment schedule of border guards
• Process proactive and responsive complaint attendances
• Report on arrested illegal foreigners held in the temporary holding cells
• Safeguard and control exhibits / evidence found to be handed over to other Agencies
• Conduct arrest of illegal foreigners/ detainees to be transferred to the nearest ports of entry or police station for further handling
• Gather information for compiled reports as required by higher authority
• Implement controls on the movement of goods and people in the identified ports and segments
• Search people, luggage and vehicles as per the relevant regulations on the planned roadblock / check point operations in the port of entry and the vulnerable areas in the borderline
• Perform borderline duties, traffic check point operations and other law enforcement duties at outer/inner perimeter areas
• Report on all illegal movement of people and goods
• Maintain surveillance from covert positions at or near the international borders
• Control the access/egress at the identified port of entry and in border law enforcement area
• Conduct vehicle/foot patrols around the inner perimeter
• Control and regulate illegal movement of people and goods
• Identify and report on international visitors, travellers and shoppers for monitoring purposes
• Respond to electronic sensor alarms in remote areas as a Mobile Response Team.

 accompanied by a comprehensive CV, citing the start and end date (dd/mm/yr) of each employment period to be considered, including the details of at least two contactable employment references (as recent as possible);
 accompanied by a copy of the Applicant’s ID, valid driver’s license where applicable, Military, Police or relevant Community Policing Services training Certificate and relevant educational qualifications. Applicants who possess (a) foreign
qualification(s),
must also submit the evaluated results of such qualifications, as received from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA);
 applicants who meet the requirements and reside within close proximity of the office where the post is based, will receive preference; and
 be a South African citizen with no prior criminal convictions.

SELECTION:
 Training in a public security environment i.e. Military, Police or any relevant community Policing Services is a pre requisite
 As these posts require strenuous physical activity, shortlisted candidates will undergo a physical assessment;
 As these posts are at various Ports of Entry and Borderlines within the Republic of South Africa, all postings will be done at the discretion of the Border Management Authority;
 Shortlisted candidates will undergo a vetting process through the State Security Agency as well the Department’s internal Employment Suitability Check processes; and
 Successful candidates will be required to enter into a Performance Agreement upon commencement of duty
