Job Description

In line with its vision for 2024, of a “smart, modern SARS, we continue to make significant enhancements to our Service Model. This Service Model aims primarily to ensure that all taxpayers understand their obligations, are supported to meet these obligations with ease, and that all instances of non-compliance are detected and resolved.

As part of our aspiration to build an agile, engaged, and evolved workforce and in line with a work environment increasingly enabled by insights from data and enabled by technology, SARS is progressively enhancing its competency profile.  We have also learnt in our response to Covid-19, that the “new normal” workplace will be a hybrid of physical and virtual engagements that impacts on our engagement with taxpayers as well as how our service staff works. 

In response, we have created a new Service Consultant role that will be channel agnostic and require a multidisciplinary approach from our consultants who engage with taxpayers. This new breed of Consultants will be required   to engage with taxpayers across all our service channels,  and tax products. For successful candidates this will mean an exciting clearly defined career path, self-directed personal growth, and the opportunity to lay a basis for a rewarding career within SARS.  These Service Consultants will be deployed across our national footprint and work across all SARS service channels which includes “over the counter”, voice, e-mail, and video channels, in both physical and remote settings. The range of activities pertaining to this job includes activities such as facilitating query resolution, taxpayer education, maintaining taxpayer or trader profiles and account management, registering and de-registering taxpayers and compliance activities such as debt collection and outstanding returns. 

This career opportunity will require the successful occupant to be:

  1. Self-driven, with a strong commitment to personal growth and life-long learning,
  2. Demonstrate an obsession for service excellence, in support of the SARS higher purpose, 
  3. Capable to work face to face, as well as with a range of technologies including telephony, desktop or handheld devices and be comfortable with both physical and virtual engagements with taxpayers. 
  4. Able to adjust and adapt to newer technologies, changes in business processes and working arrangements on a continuous basis.

Initial placement will depend on the level of qualifications and experience by a successful candidate, and whilst applicants with a post-matric qualification will be given preference, SARS, in support of youth employment, will allocate a certain amount of these opportunities will be to candidates with a matric certificate, and meet the profile.
