Duties and responsibilities: Teaching and Learning Deliver professional information and reference services aimed at supporting teaching and learning (Embedded Librarianship, curriculum knowledge, information searches, information and reference services, selective dissemination of information).Contribute to quality learning/assignment writing through embedded Librarianship: Responsible for Basic information resources (Reference works, Periodicals, Electronic resources).Responsible for Search strategies (Steps in performing search, KovsieCat) Responsible for Internet and databases (Finding information on the internet) Responsible ethical and legal use of information (Copyright, plagiarism) Bridge the communication gap between the Faculty and the Library (LibGuides, liaison role,attend departmental meetings, social media, KovsieFM, etc.). Conduct quality assurance and assessment on teaching and learning services delivered. Training and Development Deliver structured library orientation for all lecturers, support staff and undergraduate students. Offer general content and assessment for the multi-literacy online course (Information, digital and research literacy skills).Offer customised content and assessment for specific and focused credit bearing training interventions, such as research methodology, in collaboration with academics. Equip UFS graduates with attributes for academic success and life-long learning: Information, digital and research literacies. Train Tutors and equip first year students with information literacy skills. Short Learning Programmes Register the students on the LIS SLP blackboard organisation. Arrange sessions between students and facilitators. Keep records of the sessions. Keep records of the assessment. Collection Development Build a comprehensive collection that meets the Faculty’s teaching, learning and research needs. Assess collection and confirm current status to ensure relevancy, currency and usage, serve in Accreditation Boards, etc. Manage the selection of balanced information resources, to meet the teaching and learning information needs. of users (Avoid unnecessary duplications).Keep track of Faculty information resources’ budget and report on under- and/or overexpenditure. Conduct stocktaking of internal stakeholders’ collections annually. Create awareness and train on available information resources to improve usage – value for money. Manage the use of collections on short loan/reserved. Conduct shelf reading of allocated shelves daily. Inherent requirements: Bachelor’s degree on NQF level 7 in Library and Information Science or equivalent qualification in a related field of study. Any degree on NQF level 7 plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Science on NQF level 8.Membership of LIASA (Attach the 2021 certificate).
