Requirements
Minimum AET level 3 Certificate (Std 5/Grade 7).
18 years or older
Must be willing to complete practical and theoretical firefighting training
Be stationed at any Fire Station within the City of Cape Town
Work 40 hours per week and shifts
Previous experience in fire related industry would be advantageous
Work additional hours/overtime on short notice
Work in a team and cope with stressful situations
No criminal record
NOTE: All shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake and pass the following compulsory fitness test
Reach test (1.9 m)
2.4 km run (Males 12 minutes and Females 13 minutes)
Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
Sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
Dead load carry (2 x 25 kg drums a distance of 100 m)
NOTE: Candidates who pass the physical test will:
be required to pass a written assessment (Mathematics and English comprehension) and interview
be required to submit their fingerprints or identity numbers for the purpose of checking criminal records. No other criminal clearances will be acceptable
be required to undergo a medical evaluation
be required to undergo a compulsory drug test
Key Performance Areas
Carry out fire-fighting operations under guidance
To respond to and combat vegetation fires.
To check and maintain fire-fighting equipment.
Check, clean and maintain fire fighting vehicles.
To carry out fire station duties and maintenance.
Assist with clearing of fire breaks.
Undergo continuous training
