(Environmental Monitors X30)

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo is offering Environmental Monitor Learnership to unemployed South
Africans who reside in the Johannesburg region between 18 to 35 years. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Completed National Diploma in Nature Conservation/Environmental Management/Sciences (NQF L6) or completed theoretical qualification with only the experiential learning outstanding (a letter from the institution confirming the completion of the theoretical qualification is required in the absence of the certificate)
No criminal record – SAPS Verification will be done.
Must have a valid code 10 driver’s license if any
Must be in good physical condition (fitness test will be conducted as part of the interview process (2,4 km in under 12 minutes)

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Law enforcement that will include participating in regular patrols by foot, and vehicle within various nature reserves and public open spaces;
Sleeping out in anti-poaching operations, carrying out observation posts;
Assistance with natural resources management that includes the implementation of Working for Water,
working for Fire, Working for land activities;
Assist with the control of visitor’s behavior and access;
Assist with general road maintenance and hiking trail maintenance;
Assist with general maintenance of conservation infrastructure
General administration – including timesheets and reports.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
∙Willing to work flexible hours e.g. weekends & after hours
∙Ability to do extended patrols under unfavorable conditions;
∙Will be required to spend time in the field camping
