Description
Core purpose of the role
To ensure the safety and security of Avis Budget Rental and Leasing assets and staff.
Key deliverables and outputs
1. Strategic/Financial
- None
2. Operational
Administration
- Perform general administration e.g. updating guard observation book timeously
- Ensure that the observation book has been read at the start of a shift and any outstanding actions taken
Security
- For cars entering and leaving the yard, check that the VTC/contract and vehicle information correspond
- Check that all vehicles have a spare wheel and jack before entering and leaving the yard
- Perform a general damage check on all vehicles entering and leaving the yard
- Perform patrols at agreed times
- Protect moveable and immoveable Avis assets e.g. evacuate staff to designated areas in emergencies, alert emergency services and where possible provide fire or first aid assistance
- Identify and action suspicious behaviour and persons on Avis property
- Ensure the safety of staff and external customers on Avis property
- Report any security defaults (e.g. electric fence, booms, gates etc.) to Supervisor/Manager
- Ensure all visitors entering the premises have signed in
- Monitor dispatch facility e.g. access control at gates and functioning of electric fence

Requirements
Academic Qualifications
Essential:
- Grade 12
- Driver’s license
- PSIRA Accreditation
- Grade C Security Certificate
Advantageous:
- Basic first aid and firefighting certificates
Note: The role requires the incumbent to work shifts and to do hourly patrols at night and work in all weather conditions. Overtime may be required from time to time.
Work Experience
Essential:
- Minimum of 2-3yrs experience as a security guard
Advantageous:
- Security experience
This job requires that the employee maintains the highest level of Honesty and Integrity as he /she will have access to company assets, cash handling and confidential record storage areas. This requires that a formal personal background check is undertaken.
