Position Purpose:
Underwater inspection and report on the condition of marine infrastructure (quay walls, foundations, pillars, steel structures, Dry and Floating docks, harbor craft etc.) and submit to Diving Supervisor to undertake the necessary repairs and maintenance to said infrastructure (excluding harbor craft) to ensure safe structures for effective port operations. Inspection and maintenance of the quays wet assets including water points and inspection covers.
Position outputs:
- Underwater inspection of assets and photographic / video surveys of foundations, pillars, columns, steel structure, slipways, quay walls, breakwater, seabed survey mooring blocks and chains, buoys.
- Maintenance and repair of underwater structures.
- Maintenance and repair of above wet assets including water point, inspection hatches, replacement of
- Underwater / surface welding and cutting
- Maintenance and servicing of diving equipment, airlifting equipment, etc.
- Check all diving equipment before each diving operation
- Safe operation of diving craft
- Underwater hull surveys and inspections of vessels
- Underwater inspection, maintenance and repairs to dredger reclaim / main dump doors and suction pipe
- Maintain and replacement of Wave rider buoy
- Salvage / retrieval of objects / equipment / bodies, etc
- Removal of snagged objects from craft propellers
- Compile inspection reports on all inspections
- Airlifting mud from entrance of Dry Dock / slipways
- Inspection of underwater inspection and report on the condition of marine infrastructure and hulls of vessels
to enable the formulation of maintenance programs / repairs - Maintain and repair marine structures to ensure well maintained and safe infrastructure
- Maintenance and repairs of Diving equipment (including diving craft)
- Maintain all diving equipment to ensure operational effectiveness and compliance with legislation
- Apply safe working practices to ensure safety of diving team and all port users
- Civil Maintenance duties as per Civil Infrastructure duties
Qualifications & Experience:
• Grade 10
• Qualified Civil Artisan (Plumber, Carpentry or Bricklayer)
• Class 3 Commercial Diving certificate
• Driver’s license (Code C1)
• First Aid Level 3
• In Date Diving Medical Certificate
• Comply with laid down medical requirements
• 3 to 5 years commercial diving experience
• Candidate will undergo the driving assessments
• Underwater welding and cutting)
(4 weeks) will be an added advantage
• Slinging and rigging course (1 week) will be an added advantage
• Skippers Certificate (Category C) will be an added advantage
