APPLICATIONS : Applications must be –
• sent to the correct address specified at the end of this Circular, on or before the closing date;
• submitted on the New Application for Employment Form (Z.83), obtainable at www.gov.za;
• accompanied by a comprehensive CV, citing the start and end date (dd/mm/yr) of each employment period to be considered, including the details of at least two contactable employment references (as recent as possible);
• accompanied by a copy of the Applicant’s ID, valid driver’s license where applicable, Military, Police or relevant Community Policing Services training Certificate and relevant educational qualifications. Applicants who possess (a) foreign qualification(s), must also submit the evaluated results of such qualifications, as received from the South African
Qualifications Authority (SAQA);
• applicants who meet the requirements and reside within close proximity of the respective Ports, will receive preference; physical fitness assessment will be conducted at the nearest available facility within the respective Province; and
• applicants must be South African citizens with no prior criminal convictions.
SELECTION:
• Training in a public security environment i.e. Military, Police or any relevant community Policing Services is a pre-requisite
• As these posts require strenuous physical activity, shortlisted candidates will undergo a mandatory physical fitness assessment;
• As these posts are at various Ports of Entry and Borderlines within the Republic of South Africa, all postings will be done at the discretion of the Border Management Authority;
• Shortlisted candidates will undergo a vetting process through the State Security Agency as well the Department’s internal Employment Suitability Check processes; and
• Successful candidates will be required to enter into a Performance Agreement upon commencement of duty
SENIOR BORDER GUARD (TEAM LEADER), (4 POSITIONS)
SALARY LEVEL : A basic salary of R261 372 to R307 890 per annum (Level 7). In addition, a range of competitive benefits are offered.

REQUIREMENTS : • An undergraduate qualification in a Security related field at NQF level 6 as recognized by SAQA • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in command, planning and execution in public security environment • Training in a public security environment i.e. Military, Police or any relevant Community Policing Services • Firearm Competency • Experience in operational planning, commanding and exercise security operations • Eligible to carry a firearm • Ability to perform strenuous physical activity • Aligning performance for success, building a successful team and a strategic working relations • Communication, decision making and knowledge management • Planning and organising • Quality orientation and safety awareness • Ability to operate and safeguard firearm • Adaptability, commitment, creativity and discipline • Empathy, frustration tolerance, impact and innovative • Observant, selfconfidence, self-motivated, tact and trustworthy • A valid driver’s license • A Military, Police or relevant Community Policing Services training Certificate is required • Will be required to work shifts, along the borderline segments.
DUTIES : The successful candidate will be responsible for, amongst others, the following specific tasks:
• To facilitate the general Border Management and Security Services at the identified Ports of Entry and the borderline • Supervise and control effective and efficient Border Management activities • Attend on and off duty parades and deployment of border guard members • Process proactive and responsive complaint attendances • Render specialised advice and support at the borderline • Inspect registers, forms and computerised mainframe systems • Visit and inspect temporary holding cells • Monitor
and control exhibits / evidence found to be handed over to other Agencies • Arrange transfer of arrested illegal foreigners/ detainees to the nearest ports of entry or police station for deportations • Provide inputs on reports to be compiled as required by higher authority • Facilitate the implementation of control measures for the movement of goods and people in the identified ports and segments • Provide support on the planned roadblock / check point operations in the port of entry and the vulnerable areas in the borderline • Conduct vehicle/foot patrols at outer/inner perimeter areas for inspection
purposes • Administer, control and regulate movement of people and goods • Make logistical arrangements to escort valuable, vulnerable and perishable Cargo from and to vaults, vessels, aircrafts and other vehicles assigned for such cargo • Monitor and control the access/egress at the borderline, POE and border law enforcement area • Report international visitors, travellers and Shoppers to be monitored • Provide support on the operations of the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) room as and when required • Supervise and control human, financial, physical and information resources • Monitor personnel
placement, training, development, performance, discipline and service terminations • Coordinate and execute effective state asset management/control • Secure and facilitate information resources and information communication technologies.
