Job Advert Summary
PURPOSE:
• To assist in the area integrity and law enforcement of Exxaro’s properties primarily, but not exclusively, through mounted patrols.
• Gather information on ecological, environmental and security related issues that will assist in enhancing the management of Exxaro’s surface land areas primarily, but not exclusively, through mounted patrols.
• To assist management staff in executing management actions to achieve objectives with regards to surface land areas primarily, but not exclusively, through mounted patrols.
Minimum Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Grade 10/Standard 8 (Essential/Minimum and/or)
• AET Level 4 (Essential/Minimum)
• SP: Field Ranger Protected Area (Unarmed (Essential/Minimum)
EXPERIENCE:
1 year Relevant job-specific Ranger experience Basic horseman skills (Essential/Minimum)
REQUIREMENTS:
• Pub Driv Lic: Code EB (Recommended/Desirable)
• Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)
• Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)
Duties & Responsibilities
The incumbent will inter alia be responsible for the following:
Access Control
• Undertake patrols of common and access land to avoid unauthorized access and respond to potential unauthorised activities
• Assist during organised recreational events
• Monitor and enforce access and rights of way guidelines
• Monitor fence lines to detect fence incursions
• Lay ambushes and stakeouts
• To cooperate with the police service and private entities and aid emergency services
Conservation Support
• To abide, and where necessary enforce the common and access land byelaws
• Control access to conservation area
• Support conservation management activities
• To carry out and regularly maintain any management actions that are related to land conservation practise
• To abide, and where necessary enforce the applicable environmental legislation
• Conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage by implementing basic conservation actions and security measures and promote the understanding of the natural environment through interaction with visitors
• To assist Management in the collection and analysis of data (e.g. Recreation; erosion monitoring; visitor activities; wildlife surveys management agreement and landscape change monitoring and deaths)
Equipment maintenance and Horse care
• Maintaining the mounted ranger’s equipment according to the prescribed standard
• Ensure that the horses are in a good healthy condition, are well cared for and all health issues are addressed immediately
• Ensure that the tack (saddle, bridle, blankets, etc.) is carefully stored to avoid loss and damage
• Ensure that horses are cared for through feeding on time, brushing them (remove hair, maintain tails and clean hooves) and the cleaning out of stalls daily

• Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations and practices, ensuring compliance with applicable Safety Health and Environment (SHE) policies and procedures in line with set standards
