APPLICATIONS FOR MISA YOUNG GRADUATE PROGRAMME

MISA is a Schedule 3 government component of the Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG) established in terms of Section 7(5) of the Public Service Act of 1994 (as amended), with the mandate to provide technical support and build technical capacity for municipalities to enhance their capability to undertake efficient planning, delivery, operations and management of municipal infrastructure. The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) hereby offers opportunities for internship programmes aimed at facilitating achievement of qualified technical specialists to enhance municipal technical capacities. Please see detailed below and shall commence from 2022/23 financial year to the required periods as per detailed Programmes descriptions below. Successful Candidates will be placed in identified Municipalities depending on the needs and the capacity of Municipalities to expose and give the relevant practical experience to the candidates’ choice of disciplines.

INTERNSHIP: YOUNG GRADUATES PROGRAMME (REF N0: YG 01/2022/23)

Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Town and Regional Planning

The Young Graduates Programme is a two-to-three-year programme aimed towards professional registration as professional Technicians, Technologists and Engineers in terms of approved regulatory and professional Bodies frameworks including Act 36 of 2002 and Engineering Professions Act No 46 of 2000 and the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) is the statutory council responsible for regulating the planning profession in terms of the Planning Profession Act, 36 of 2002 (PPA) (herein referred to as the Act) and other related legislation.
Whilst the programme is not exclusively limited to individuals from previously disadvantaged communities, MISA encourages historically disadvantaged individuals to apply and will give them preference. The MISA Young Graduate programme is a structured work-based internship development programme focused on taking young graduates from various Universities and University of Technologies through a structured work plan in order to expand their work experience and achieve professional registration as professional technicians with the relevant statutory professional registration body.

The recruitment is targeting cohort for the 2022/2023 financial year in particular learners from previously disadvantaged background. Successful candidates will enter into two to three-years internship contract as determined by the requirement of the specific discipline. The Young Graduates will enter contract with MISA and be placed within the relevant departments within the District Municipalities for the duration of the internship.

Applicants must be willing and available to undergo required structured training, deployment and rotation to district municipalities and private sector Consultancies leading towards professional registration. MISA does not guarantee post-internship employment to graduates owing to participation in the programme. All applications need to include:
Eligibility: University and University of Technology graduates meeting the minimum academic requirements in the following disciplines: • Civil Engineering : BTech degree / BSc /B Eng in Civil Engineering • Town & Regional Planning : BTech degree/ BSc in Town & Regional Planning • Electrical Engineering: BTech Degree / BSc /B Eng in Electrical Engineering.

Requirements: Applicants must be unemployed graduates willing and available for a minimum 24 months post-graduation workplace experience deployment within a host municipality. Applicants must be South African citizens.

NB: Attached herewith is a list of the provinces where the applicants would like to be placed with relevant specific fields of work exposure. Applicants must choose specific field offered in host provinces as per given list.
MISA reserves the right to / not to make appointments. If no response is received from MISA in 90 days after the closing date, it must be presumed that your application was unsuccessful. Correspondence regarding the advertised positions will be limited to successful candidates only.
