National Association of Child Care Workers (NACCW) is implementing an HWSETA funded project in partnership with Isibindi Ezikoleni; and aligned to the District Development Model (DDM). The project will be implemented in 4 districts in KZN (iLembe, eThekwini [Pinetown and uMlazi], uMgungundlovu, and uGu).
The overall program goal is for CYCWs, supported by mentors to improve learner wellbeing with respect to their safety, education, health, and psychosocial needs. The support provided will address the support needs of children vulnerable to school drop-out and poor scholastic achievement. Services will focus on minimizing the impact of psychosocial risks such as violence (child abuse, bullying, gender-based violence), substance use, learner pregnancy, child headed households and poverty on the learner’s ability to attend school, stay in school and complete their schooling.
We are inviting suitably qualified Child and Youth Care Workers, who meet the below criteria, to apply for the position of Child and Youth Care Worker to be based at:
Umlazi District
Orissa Primary School (x1 CYCW)
Summerfield Primary School (x1 CYCW)
Darosa Pre-Vocational Secondary School (x1 CYCW)
Illembe District
Otimati Primary School (x1 CYCW)
Ugu District
Ohlangeni Primary School (x1 CYCW – maternity cover, 4 months only)
Olwandle High School (x 1 CYCW)
This is a contract post. Further renewal of contracts is dependent on funding and performance.
Requirements for successful candidates:
• Qualified CYCW with an FETC Child and Youth Care Work (level 4/5)
• Registration with South African Council for Social Service Professions.
o Support for registration to SACSSP can be offered
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to work well as part of a team.
• Have strong family and other support systems.
• Competency (Speak, Read and Write) in English
• The following will be advantageous:
o Competency in IsiZulu
o Experience in HIV/AIDS and TB programs
o Experience in community child and youth care work
o Experience in facilitating FunDZA, Nalibali and Reading for Meaning reading program groups.
o Being trained in Vhutshilo 1, 2 and 3 Stepping Stones, ASPIRES, KidzAlive, and PEP will be advantageous
The following responsibilities will be required of successful candidates.
• Conduct baseline questioners to better assess the school’s needs and plan interventions accordingly.
• Develop professional relationships with vulnerable children and youth and their families.
• Conduct and develop Individual Development Plan for each learner in their cohort.
• Network and liaise with relevant Department of Health facilities, and organizations and resources in the community.
• Make appropriate referrals and linkages for all cases that have been identified and follow ups.
• Advocate and uphold the rights of children and youth at risk
• Provide individual care and support to the children, youth and families in schools setting or their life space.
• Understand and monitor targets per district that they are placed in.
• Understand funders indicators and ensure they are attended to
• Keep records of all activities in terms of all program documents, formats and/or guidelines provided.
• Adhere to Child and youth Care work Code of Ethics, and to programmatic standard operating procedures and principles.
• Be able to get themselves to the appointed school with no expectation of travel costs being covered.

NB: The successful candidate will be expected to travel to the school/s they are allocated to – at their own cost.

• This is an HWSETA funded program and successful applicants will be remunerated at R4200 a month.
• Interviewing of shortlisted candidates will take place soon after closing date.
• Should it be required, relocation cost will NOT be covered by the employer.
