Location: Johannesburg, ZA Organization Name: Department of Developmental Pathways Health Research Unit Department Description SAMRC/WITS DEVELOPMENTAL PATHWAYS FOR HEALTH RESEARCH UNIT COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMME FACILITATORS AD.17 One Year fixed contract We are seeking individuals to fulfil the role of Health Helper on The PLAY Study, an intervention aimed at improving development and growth in children from birth to two years old. The role requires candidates to have a professional work ethic, due to the sensitive nature of some of the topics covered. Candidates should be non-judgemental, approachable, have good interpersonal and communication skills, and should be comfortable interacting with moms and babies in the Soweto community. Furthermore, candidates should be passionate about helping and empowering mothers and children in impoverished communities. The successful candidate will be based within the SAMRC/Wits Developmental Pathways for Health Research Unit (DPHRU), which is in Soweto, Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be tasked with data collection, and the delivery of the PLAY Study programme to mothers in Soweto. We are looking for female candidates but will consider exceptional male candidates who have experience working with mothers and babies in a health care setting. Brief Description General Responsibilities: · Attend training required to implement the PLAY Study programme. · Conduct telephonic and face-to-face sessions with PLAY Study participants (mothers in Soweto). · Conduct data collection on site, at community clinics, and at participant homes · Data capturing · Quality control · Fieldwork · Participant recruitment and consenting · Reporting to project coordinator · Ensuring project timelines are met Requirements: · Female · Completed matric, and have some post-matric training (e.g. certificate, diploma). · Must be willing to work in the Soweto community · Driver’s license preferable · Participant recruitment skills · Vernacular language would be preferable · Excellent organisational skills · Experience with capturing and checking data quality · Teamwork and the ability to work independently · Willingness to assist, and take instruction for the principal investigator and project coordinator to ensure smooth operation of the project · Knowledge of sound ethical practice in the conduct of research · Self-motivated, proactive, innovative, and able to use initiative where appropriateDetailed Description Job Requirements Additional Details How To Apply Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience working with community-based programmes (health or health-related).
