Salary Range (differentiated according to the level of qualification): R 6 375.00 – R 8 375.00 per month

Overview of the Organisation
The NMISA is a Type 3A Public Entity established in accordance with the Measurement Unit and Measurement Standards Act, No. 18 of 2006 (the Act). The NMISA is mandated by the Act to provide for the use of the international system of units (the SI) and other measurement units in South Africa, to maintain national measurement standards (NMS) and to determine and ensure the comparability of the NMS. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The internship programme offers graduates an opportunity to enhance their skills and gain meaningful workplace experience to complement their studies. The candidate will work alongside engineers and artisans to design and/or machine and/or manufacture mechanical components/parts or artefacts for NMISA to assist the laboratories in fulfilling their functions and to support the development of measuring instruments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Three-year tertiary qualification in the field of Mechanical engineering
• Postgraduate degree will be an added advantage

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work in a mechanical workshop for the period of their training, the incumbent will comply with NMISA’s policies and procedures and perform all duties in line with the Total Quality Management System.
• Assist with milling machine work to manufacture components as per drawings supplied.
• Assist with turning including screw cutting and using the 4-jaw chuck.
• Assist with all bench fitting work to accurately assemble components as per engineering drawings.
• Assist in maintaining clean and tidy work areas.
• Maintain and clean workshop machines
• Assist with workshop administrative duties.
• Assist with mechanical designs.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations.

• Enthusiastic and self-motivated
• Good reasoning ability focused on problem solving with independent, proactive action
• Good planning and organising skills with analytical approach to work tasks
• Follow organisational and laboratory rules such as policies and procedures
• Honesty and ethical behaviour is of the utmost importance when delivering on assigned tasks within NMISA
• Ability to function within a team to achieve a common goal
