Job Advert Summary
The HSC research programme is currently implementing the South African National HIV prevalence, Incidence, Behaviour, and Communication Survey (also known as SABSSM VI). The programme had previously advertised HTS Counsellor data collector positions nationwide and is currently targeting individuals from the specific locations listed below due to the diversity and operational needs for the successful implementation of the survey. In the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Gauteng we are particularly looking for Afrikaans home language individuals or fluent Afrikaans speaking individuals.
Western Cape: Cape Town and surrounding areas
Northern Cape: Kimberley and Upington,
Free State: Mangaung and Welkom,
KwaZulu Natal: Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Richardsbay and Ladysmith,
Gauteng: Johaneesburg, Pretoria, East Rand and West Rand,
Eastern Cape: NMBMA, Kariega and Umthata,
North West: Rustenburg, Mafikeng and Klerksdorp/Potchefstroom,
Limpopo: Mogalakwena-Mokopane, Polokwane and Thohoyandou.
Minimum Requirements
Requirements:
Minimum qualification of Grade 12.
Minimum of 10-day HTS course aligned with NDoH not older than 2 years.
Must have practised as an HTS Counsellor in the past 12 months.
Above-average ability to read, write and speak is essential in English and other South African languages spoken in the specified locations above.
Familiarity with the use of electronic tablets.
Prior relevant working experience working in the community outside a clinic context will be advantageous.
Willingness to work in a team.
Willingness to travel long distances, within and outside of one’s province when required.
Willingness to visit selected households during weekends and after hours.
Having a valid driver’s license will be an added advantage.
Proven ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential or sensitive matters
Preference will be given to HTS Counsellors who have worked in research (HSRC or elsewhere) in a similar position.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities:
Successful candidates will be responsible for the implementation of the survey by collecting data in households using electronic tablets to interview selected participants.
Attend training sessions in full;
Successful candidates will be required to work within a team.
Provide potential participants information about the project.
Complete consent forms for all participants.
Provide HIV Counselling and Testing services using an appropriate counselling and testing model
Collect dried blood spots (DBS) from children and adults.
Ensure quality work by following processes, procedures, and steps, outlined in the training manual.
Manage fieldwork expenses by completing reconciliations following HSRC rules and regulations.
Manage assets provided by HSRC.
