LABORATORY ASSISTANT

Deltamune’s veterinary vaccine range includes registered and autogenous vaccines for poultry, ruminants and other species. POSITION PURPOSE
To independently and as directed, provide services for the manufacturing of vaccines and related products within the production scope of business. To plan, perform and co-ordinate services rendered to various departments to ensure continuity of processes throughout the Production Facility and ensure quality products are manufactured including the cleaning. The Laboratory Assistant will also provide backup services to the various Production subdivisions where operational support is required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- In collaboration with the line manager manufacture products in such a way as to ensure that all products manufactured adhere to the QC specifications.
- Ensure that products are made according to the production schedule (manufacture products, bottling of products)
- Cleaning of the large and small formulation Facility (pre- and post-manufacturing) according to the required specifications.
- Cleaning of the bottling room (pre- and post-manufacturing) according to the required specifications.
- Cleaning of the Adjuvant oil room (pre- and post-manufacturing) according to the required specifications.
- Ensure that plant, equipment and raw materials are ready for the needs of day-to-day operations
- Management of wastage (Efficiency – Adjuvants, oils, caps, bottles, disinfectants and chemicals.).
- Ensure adequate supply of raw materials through effective collaboration with the line manager and procurement staff.
- Carry out day-to-day operations in the plant (operation/cleaning of key equipment, assembling & disassembling of equipment as instructed by the line manager, equipment monitoring, swabbing/ sampling external systems for quality purposes, interchangeable duties throughout the plant)
- Assist with maintenance of equipment and calibration of instruments as directed by the line manager
- Responsible for the daily monitoring and emptying of the overflow drum of the various fridges in production.
- Cleaning of the various laboratories as directed by senior scientific staff and walk-in-antigen fridges/ incubators or at least once a month.

SPECIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- 2-3 years’ work experience will be advantageous.
- Prior experience in a production/manufacturing environment will be advantageous.
SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES / COMPETENCIES:
- Excellent verbal communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including flexibility and the ability to work well in a team environment;
- Excellent time management skills;
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Ability to schedule work according to priorities.
