Introduction | eRESEARCH KNOWLEDGE CENTRE (eRKC) In delivering ‘social science that makes a difference’ the Research Divisions, Units, Institutes and Centres of the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) undertake policy-oriented research from its offices in Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, and Pietermaritzburg. Our public purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008. The eResearch Knowledge Centre (eRKC) intends to enhance the HSRC’s research capability through innovative information services, geospatial solutions, and digital curation. It is an informed research enabler that provides innovative knowledge services and access to resources that meet the needs of the HSRC’s research community and its stakeholders. The eRKC provides ongoing and pro-active information service to staff of the HSRC. This unit wishes to appoint 5 suitably qualified Temporary Library Assistants. This is a short-term contract for 3 months. The successful candidates will be based in the Pretoria Office. The Temporary Library Assistants will be part of the Team of co-workers with main responsibility: a collection incorporation project. Staff who will be appointed in this temporary position will be expected to work as a team, to attend to all tasks necessary to incorporate the two collections successfully. Specification | Key responsibilities •To attend to the removal of books from one section of the library, to incorporate it with the rest of the collection. •Processing of books by adding spine descriptions, security tags, and barcoding. •Interfiling books into its correct DDC position on the shelf. •Moving the whole collection to avail space for the new incoming books. |
Requirements | Key requirements •A minimum of matric with library experience or a qualification in Library and Information Science is required. •Fully Computer literate. •Have basic knowledge of library management systems. •Should be available for the full period of the project. (1 January 2022 to 31 March 2022) The HSRC offers attractive, market-related packages, depending on qualifications and experience.
